About UNB PBSC

HISTORY, VISION AND MISSION

The first PBSC chapter was established in 1996 at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. The mission was simple: to provide free legal support to people and communities facing barriers to justice. Twenty-five years later, this mission remains the same. PBSC, however, has evolved into a national, award-winning organization with a chapter in virtually each Canadian law school. Today about 1,700 PBSC law student volunteers provide over 135, 000 hours of free legal services to about 500 organizations, courts, and tribunals across Canada.

We envision a society with accessible legal systems, where the dignity and rights of every person are upheld.

Our mission is to provide free legal support to people and communities facing barriers to justice.

OUR GOALS

Provide Access to Justice
We expand access to justice by engaging law students in meaningful projects that support individuals and communities facing barriers to legal information, resources, and services.

Support Our Community Partners
We strengthen community organizations by assisting our partner organizations in advancing their objectives through research, public legal education, outreach initiatives, and other student-led projects.

Train Future Lawyers
We prepare future lawyers by providing hands-on learning opportunities that foster practical legal skills, professionalism, collaboration, and a lifelong commitment to public service.
